Dither presents our seventh Dither Extravaganza!, a raucous festival of creative music and art. Dubbed an “official concert on the edge” by The New Yorker, the Extravaganza showcases a cross-section of New York’s diverse experimental music scene, featuring artists whose backgrounds span jazz, classical, metal, pop, electronica and the avant-garde. The Dither Extravaganza! is funded by the Brooklyn Arts Council.
The Extravaganza is set up as an all-day gathering with wildly contrasting musical acts throughout the night. There are no fixed seating arrangements (though chairs are available for those who need them) and the audience is welcome to come and go as they please.
Dither will perform sets throughout the evening, including music from our new album, Potential Differences (released November 1, 2019 on New Focus Recordings) and a large ensemble version of James Tenney's Swell Piece performed with Extravaganza artists.
Other Highlights include:
The world premiere of JG Thirlwell's new prepared guitar piece for Dither, Feather Mask
Mezzo-soprano Alicia Hall Moran performing original compositions and arias from Bryce Dessner's Triptych
Mivos Quartet performing string quartets by Alex Mincek and Linda Catlin Smith
Songs with guitar & cuatro from Yva Las Vegass
Singer/songwriter, composer & multi-instrumentalist Naeemah Z Maddox
Artful electro-pop artist Ryan Power
Tredici Bacci, a 13-piece pop/orchestral ensemble led by Simon Hanes inspired by spaghetti western soundtracks and Italian film music of the 60s
Elixir, a new electric band led by Dither member Gyan Riley with Taylor Levine, David Cossin & Greg Chudzik
A solo baritone sax set from composer/performer Shelley Washington
Electronics/noise duo Paula Matthusen & Philip White, featuring feedback instruments and homemade devices
